As part of the graduate course ARCH535 – Design, Conservation, and Recovery in Historical Environment, conducted by Assist. Prof. Dr. Cemile Feyzan Şimşek at the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Architecture Master Program, a field trip to the historic Ulus district of Ankara will be held this semester.

Titled “Designing with Heritage – Ulus Field Trip,” this visit aims to provide students with an on-site understanding of urban heritage, conservation practices, and the ongoing processes of transformation within one of Ankara’s most historically layered urban cores. The field trip will focus on reading the city through its tangible and intangible heritage values, spatial transformations, and socio-cultural narratives.

The field trip will be guided by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Çelik from the Department of History of Science, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, who will share interdisciplinary insights on the historical development and scientific background of the Ulus district.

📅 Date & Time: 2 December 2025 | 13:00
📍 Meeting Point: Gençlik Park Entrance, Ulus

This on-site study is designed to strengthen the connection between theoretical discussions and real urban contexts, supporting students’ critical thinking on conservation, regeneration, and heritage management in historic environments.

We look forward to an inspiring and productive field experience in the heart of Ankara.
